America’s Amazing Alzheimer’s Choir

141221-Music.jpeg
Once a week, a chorus of people with Alzheimer's and dementia rehearse side-by-side with their caregivers. The songs they sing are, remarkably, often from memory. Watch the Giving Voice Chorus in action. (Video)

The first concert of it’s kind in the country, Love Never Forgets, with music and lyrics by Louisa Castner and Victor Zupanc, was commissioned through Healing & Hope Through Song, an American Composers Forum (ACF) residency program for the Giving Voice Chorus, which includes singers with Alzheimer’s and their care partners. The concert proves people with Alzheimer’s and dementia can learn new music.

They are amazing! I’m retired and worked as a secretary on a geriatric psych unit. I loved my job. The patients were like children.
I now take care of my husband. He has alcohol dementia. He’s actually opposite than what he was years ago. He’s the sweetest guy right now.
