For My Alzheimer’s Mum, We Made a Supermarket at Home

200503.jpeg
See joy shine in Mum, 87, despite Alzheimer's, as her family transforms their home into Mum's supermarket, stocked with grocery favorites. (Video)

These impossibly tough days of home isolation are difficult for all of us. But for someone battling Alzheimers and Vascular Dementia, being restricted to home destroys confidence, weekly routines and what little is left of short-term cognitive function. My mum is 87 years old and lives with us at home, we are her full-time carers. Now we’re her full-time shopping mall too. (Article continued below…)

My wife Megan, baby daughter Evie and son Art staffed our own home-made supermarket stocked with her favourite groceries. My eldest son Levi filmed this on his iPhone.

Whatever your challenge at home, whatever your family situation, please remember to let some sunshine through. From our little imperfect family to yours, stay safe and may kindness keep you well.
