I have been giving my husband coconut oil capsules for 4 yrs and his mid stage AD is fairly stabled during this time.
Hi when is the drug j147 for alzeimers going to be available I've heard it's had excellent results on fruit flies and rats and mice which before hand were given advanced alzeimers
Not everyone can take those drugs without having extreme nausea and dizziness, even vomiting. Alzheimer's seems to run rampant in my family, unfortunately. I was diagnosed with MCI about 5 years ago (I think). I cannot tolerate the meds currently available. It's a nightmare: cannot drive, no enjoyment from reading since I can't recall what I've read. Hope someone finds a treatment or a cure. I'm of the 4th generation experiencing this disease and very concerned about my adult children developing it too. Good luck to all.
I understand. I am starting this journey too. I am also the 3rd or 4th generation battling this disease. The drugs did nothing for me, but fortunately I live in a Medical Marijuana State and it helps tremendously. I don't know how familiar you are with cannabis, but if you are not, I will give you a quick education. It is made up of 2 components CBD (non psychoactive) and THC (psychoactive). I take the CBD 2 times during the day, late morning and late afternoon and before bed I take the THC. It allows me to live a pretty "normal" life. Don't get me wrong it has not cured me, but it does help me go about my days without the issues I have if I don't take it. I am still driving, grocery shopping, cooking all our meals and pay my own bills. I pretty much live like I did before I was diagnosed. I don't know how you feel about cannabis, or if it is available where you live, but research "treating dementia/alzheimer's with cannabis. It is a legitimate alternative to the drugs that did nothing for me. Good luck and take care.
I too have been recently diagnosed with alzheimers; and am presently participating in a research project, a drug being investigated by Biogen. It truly is HOPE for me!
My wife is a survivor of Small Cell Lung Cancer 7 yrs ago, who has also endured 3 major strokes related to a congenital heart defect (PFO) and 3 more vascular strokes related to the onset of Intra Cranial Atherosclerosis Disease. In addition, during the the past 6 years she has experienced no less than 16 TIA's. Due to all of the above we now live with the debilitating effects of Vascular Dementia. Last October we added Namenda XR to the regimen of the other 10 prescription meds & 3 vitamins. There has been a gradual, but very distinct, improvement in her cognitive abilities. She is happier, she can hold a conversation, every evening we "chat" about the activities of the day, and with difficulty she tries to respond to my questions about who she saw, what was said, and where did this happen. All things that she was unable to do prior to taking Namenda XR. Unfortunately, there has been negligible improvement with her balance & strength even though we try to maintain her PT program.
